Biopsy

“Valeria Garcia" I heard the woman say... I walk into the same place where my mammogram was taken and asked if everything was okay. "Do you need more pictures?" She shook her head no and told me to take a seat. My heart sank. Why did I need to sit down if everything was okay (I thought in my head).

The doctor walked in the room... He asked me if I had come alone. I told him yes, my husband is at home watching our little ones. He told me I had to be strong. I had a long journey ahead of me but with modern medicine he was sure I would survive.....

My head was spinning. What was he trying to say? Survive? I'm only 25 years old...

"Mrs. Garcia, the lump that is on your breast doesn't look normal and is something worrisome. It looks very suspicious and we believe it is malignant. We are going to need to schedule you for a biopsy right away and figure out exactly what it is and get it taken care of as quickly as possible." I still didn't know what he was saying. Nothing made sense. I couldn't process in my head what was happening.

He kept asking me over and over again if I had any questions and I kept saying no. Until I finally asked him the one question I couldn't get out of my head and the one I'm sure my husband would want a clear answer on....

"So we won't know for sure if it's cancer until after I get my biopsy then right?" He shook his said and said no. "The reason we are having the biopsy done is because it is cancerous and we want to know what type it is and what stage you're in now. We need to move as quickly as possible."

I was left s p e e c h l e s s.

"How do you feel? What are you thinking right now?" That's when the tears started... "I don't have insurance. Once I get diagnosed on paper, the program I'm in now won't cover any other medical costs and there's no way I can afford all of this." He told me he would take care of everything and that was the last thing that I had to worry about.

I was told to get dressed and to give them a call back if I had any other questions. As I was changing I could only think about how I was going to tell my husband. I'm sure he was going to have a lot of questions that I didn't have the answers to... So I texted babe and told him that they weren't going to tell me the results until another day and that I would see him back home. I had to have some time to digest what I was just told.

Wow. Still couldn't believe it.

Why?

How?

When?

I spoke with the front desk and was told they would contact me when my biopsy was scheduled. I said okay and started waking away when I heard the other receptionist said "Have a great day!" I wanted to slap her! Have a great day? What a joke! But life goes on and I wasn't going to be defeated by a medical diagnosis. My faith is in my God and I know He holds all things and is alongside me through this journey.

Fast forward a week later and it was time to get my biopsy done.
The procedure itself was sooo much quicker than what I expected. I had the most amazing nurse and doctor. They were super informative and kept checking on me to make sure I was okay and comfortable. The procedure itself was maybe 5-10 mins at most.

After the procedure was over, the doctor who performed the biopsy made sure she sat down and chatted with me. She made sure I didn't have any unanswered questions and make sure I was prepared for what was going to happen next. So for now, we just wait to meet with my specialist and go over my results and what the next step is.

I promise I'll try to keep y'all as updated as I can. Stay tuned 💕
